India Sees COVID-19 Resurgence: Kerala and Maharashtra Lead Rise in Cases

India is experiencing a renewed surge in COVID-19 cases, with Kerala, Maharashtra, Delhi, and Karnataka identified as the country’s current hotspots.
Kerala continues to lead the nation in active COVID cases, accounting for over 40% of all infections. As of Monday, the southern state reported 430 COVID-positive individuals, with 335 new cases since May 19, according to the Health Ministry. Two COVID-related deaths were also recorded during this period.
Hotspots and Rising Cases
Following closely behind Kerala are Maharashtra and Delhi, with 210 and 104 cases respectively. A noticeable increase in cases has also been observed in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
Currently, India registers 1,010 active coronavirus cases nationwide.
Official Response
Telangana officials have been instructed to closely monitor the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and actively educate the public on necessary precautions. They have also been directed to keep a vigilant eye on the spread of respiratory illnesses and vector-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya.
One recent COVID-19 case has been reported in Telangana, according to official data.
Sub-Variants and Symptoms
Two new Omicron sub-variants, NB.1.8.1 and LF.7, have been detected in India. However, the JN.1 strain remains the most prevalent across the country. Both the NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 sub-variants have been classified as variants under monitoring by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The JN.1 variant presents a range of symptoms, including loss of appetite, mild fever, sore throat, nasal congestion, dry cough, headache, fatigue, gastrointestinal issues, and vomiting. It’s crucial to seek medical attention if you experience a fever above 102°F for more than three days, breathing difficulties, chest pain, or if your oxygen levels fall below 94 percent.
Doctors have been advised to exercise caution, and patients are encouraged to stock up on paracetamol and cough suppressant medicines.
