Mumbai Floods: Aaditya Thackeray Accuses BJP of Malice Towards the City

Mumbai Drenched as Thackeray Slams BJP Over Monsoon Crisis
Mumbai faced a severe monsoon deluge on Monday, prompting Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray to launch a scathing attack on the BJP government for its alleged mismanagement of the situation. Thackeray accused the ruling party of neglecting the city and farmers, leaving them vulnerable to the heavy rains.
Speaking to reporters, Thackeray questioned the BJP’s intentions, saying, “Why does the BJP have such malice for Mumbai in their mind? Why does the BJP want to end Mumbai?” He pointed to widespread waterlogging across the city as evidence of the government’s failure to prepare for the monsoon season.
Thackeray’s criticism comes after the Maharashtra government faced heavy backlash for its handling of the floods. He highlighted the plight of farmers who have suffered losses due to the downpour, accusing the government of providing no assistance. He further criticized the BJP-controlled Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for its alleged corruption and failure to maintain the city’s drainage system.
Thackery also visited the flooded Worli metro station, where he alleged that the money of Mumbaikars was being misused and no civic work was being undertaken.
Heavy Rainfall Batters Mumbai
The city received significant rainfall on Monday, marking the onset of the monsoon. Colaba recorded 144.3 mm of rainfall, while Santacruz received 74.3 mm. The average rainfall across the city was 58 mm, with eastern suburbs receiving 20 mm and western suburbs 15 mm. Despite the downpour, the city experienced some respite from the heat, with Colaba recording a maximum temperature of 26.4 degrees Celsius and Santacruz 28.7 degrees Celsius.
