MS Dhoni Hints at Possible IPL Comeback in 2026 After Emotional Season

Former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni, at the age of 43, has left fans buzzing with speculation about his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite acknowledging that he’s in the twilight of his career, Dhoni hasn’t ruled out a return to the IPL in 2026.
Speaking after Chennai Super Kings’ victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, Dhoni said he’ll assess his fitness over the next six to eight months before making a decision. ‘After this IPL gets over, I have to work hard for another 6-8 months to see if my body can take this pressure,’ he said.
Love and Affection Fuel Speculation
Dhoni’s comments come after a season filled with heartwarming moments from fans who recognized his potential final appearances. ‘That is the love and affection I have gotten throughout. Not to forget, I am 42 (43). I have played for a long time. A lot of them don’t know when it is going to be my last time, so they want to come and see me play,’ Dhoni shared.
The veteran cricketer has been battling fitness concerns, including a knee surgery two years ago. Chennai head coach Stephen Fleming recently admitted that Dhoni can’t bat 10 overs at full intensity.
Focus on Bench Strength
While the CSK team’s playoff hopes have been dashed this season, Dhoni remains focused on utilizing the opportunity to test his team’s bench strength. ‘There were a few things that did not go our way. You could get emotional about it, talk about the pride factor, but you have to be practical about it,’ he said.
The Chennai Super Kings will be back in action on May 12th, facing the Rajasthan Royals at home. The upcoming match will be another chance for fans to witness Dhoni’s legendary presence on the field, adding to the anticipation surrounding his potential IPL return in 2026.
