Dhoni Leaves Fans Guessing About IPL Future, Says He Needs Time to Decide

Dhoni’s Cryptic Comments on IPL Future
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the legendary captain of Chennai Super Kings, has once again kept fans on the edge of their seats regarding his future in the Indian Premier League. After CSK’s 83-run victory over Gujarat Titans in their last league game, Dhoni remained tight-lipped about his plans for the upcoming season.
Known for his enigmatic style, Dhoni said he needs to prioritize his fitness and will take his time before making any decisions. ‘It depends’, he stated. ‘I have 4-5 months to decide, there’s no hurry. Need to keep my body fit. You have to be at your best’.
Retirement Not on the Cards Based on Performance
Dhoni also addressed the speculation surrounding his retirement, emphasizing that he wouldn’t base his decision on performance. ‘If cricketers start retiring for their performance, some of them will retire at 22,’ he remarked. ‘I will go back to Ranchi, enjoy a few bike rides. I am not saying I am done, not saying I am coming back. I have the luxury of timing. Will think about it and then decide’.
Looking Forward to a Strong CSK Season
The 43-year-old captain expressed optimism about CSK’s future, hoping for a better season next year with Ruturaj Gaikwad returning from injury. He jokingly referred to Gaikwad’s youth, saying, ‘Ruturaj doesn’t need to worry about too many things next season. He will fit into one of those roles. You feel old. He is exactly 25 years younger than me, that makes me feel I am old’.
Dhoni acknowledged that CSK’s batting performance was a concern during the 2023 season, stating, ‘We didn’t have a good season; it was one of those perfect performances (vs GT). We haven’t caught very well, but the catching was good today. When we started the season, the four games were in Chennai. We decided to bat second, but I felt the wicket was good for batting in the first innings. ‘I was worried about the batting department. We can put runs on the board, but a few holes to fill’.
