Mumbai-Pune Expressway ‘Missing Link’ to Open in 2025, Cutting Travel Time by 30 Minutes

Mumbai-Pune Expressway Gets a ‘Missing Link’
Exciting news for commuters! Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that the long-awaited ‘Missing Link’ project on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway is almost complete. With 95% of the work done, this 13-kilometer stretch is expected to open by August 2025.
What’s the Big Deal?
This new link is going to make a huge difference for people traveling between Mumbai and Pune. It will cut the distance between the two cities by 5.7 kilometers and shave off about 30 minutes from your commute. That’s a big deal when you consider how busy the expressway is!
A Challenging Construction Project
This project, which cost a whopping Rs 6,600 crore, wasn’t easy to build. It required some seriously impressive engineering feats. The ‘Missing Link’ includes an 840-meter viaduct, a 1.75-kilometer tunnel, and even a 640-meter cable-stayed bridge soaring 100 meters above Tiger Valley.
As a senior official from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) explained, ‘This work has to be done with utmost care. There has to be testing at every level and there should be no negligence’.
Safer and Faster Travel
With the new link bypassing the accident-prone ghat section, drivers will be able to cruise at speeds of up to 120 kmph. The project is also a major step towards making the entire expressway a ‘zero-fatality corridor’, meaning fewer accidents and smoother traffic flow.
It’s a win-win for everyone!
