Monsoon Mayhem: Mumbai Drenched as Heavy Rains Continue Across India

Mumbai Struggles with Heavy Rain
Mumbai woke up to a soggy Sunday morning as heavy rainfall brought traffic to a standstill. Commuters faced waterlogged roads, making their journeys a real challenge. This downpour is just the beginning, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), which has predicted more rain across Maharashtra and other parts of Western India in the coming days.
Weakening Depression, but Still a Threat
The IMD reported that the depression that was previously over Madhya Maharashtra has moved eastwards and weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area. Although it is expected to weaken further, it will still bring more rain as it slowly moves eastward over the next 24 hours.
The IMD shared details about the depression’s movement on social media, stating it was centered over south Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining areas of Marathwada & North Interior Karnataka.
More Trouble on the Roads
This rainfall comes on the heels of another incident that caused major traffic chaos. On Thursday, heavy rains in Maharashtra’s Thane district resulted in significant damage to the Bhiwandi-Wada road, leading to a massive traffic jam. The downpour created large potholes and slowed traffic to a crawl, further compounded by ongoing road construction work. Commuters were stranded for hours in the 7-8 kilometre long traffic jam.
West Coast on Alert
The IMD has issued a warning for continued heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the west coast, including Konkan, Goa, Karnataka, and Kerala, over the next few days.
