Heavy Rains Devastates Palghar: Over 9,000 Farmers and Fishermen Need Help

Palghar Hit Hard by Unseasonal Rains
Unseasonal rainfall in Maharashtra’s Palghar district earlier this month has left a trail of destruction, impacting over 9,000 farmers and fishermen. The heavy downpours, which occurred on May 6th and 7th, caused widespread damage to crops, homes, and fishing boats.
Homes and Crops Damaged
According to the district administration, the rains destroyed 2,124 houses and four huts, while 2,120 houses suffered partial damage. A staggering 537.68 hectares of farmland belonging to 1,923 farmers was impacted, along with 2,162.79 hectares of fruit crops, affecting 5,598 cultivators.
Relief Efforts Underway
Recognizing the severity of the situation, the district administration has prepared a comprehensive relief proposal seeking financial assistance from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). The proposal outlines the extensive damage and the urgent need for support.
The administration is seeking Rs 1.2 crore for the housing damage and Rs 9.23 crore for the affected farmers. Additionally, Rs 6.32 lakh has been requested to assist the 99 fishermen whose boats were partially damaged, and the two whose boats were completely destroyed.
