The Grade Cricketer, a wildly popular cricket podcast, has been caught in the crosshairs of the Indian Premier League (IPL) this week.

A Legal Letter and a Big Request

The podcast, known for its daily show “The Big IPL Breakfast” which boasts over a million listeners worldwide, received a stern legal letter from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL over the weekend. The letter demanded they remove hundreds of videos featuring photos and logos from the tournament across various platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter).

Why the Sudden Action?

According to sources, the BCCI believes The Grade Cricketer used photos taken from the IPL for “commercial” purposes rather than “editorial” use in their videos.

Repercussions for the Podcast

This crackdown has serious implications for the show. Not only have they had to take down hundreds of videos, but they may even have to change their show’s name. The hosts, Sam Perry and Ian Higgins, were scheduled to travel to India this week for a series of live shows during the IPL. It remains to be seen if this legal battle will impact their plans.
