Heavy Rains Batter Kerala: Red Alert Issued for Four Districts

Kerala Braces for Heavy Rains
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for four districts in Kerala, warning of heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, and Kozhikode are expected to be the hardest hit.
Orange and Yellow Alerts for Other Districts
Three other districts – Malappuram, Thrissur, and Palakkad – are under an orange alert, meaning they could also experience significant rainfall. Five more districts – Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki – are on a yellow alert, indicating the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall.
Precautions and Warnings
The Kerala government is urging people to be cautious, particularly those living in hilly or riverside areas. They are advising against night travel in these regions.
The government has also instructed district administrations to prepare for any potential emergencies caused by the heavy rains.
Tidal Surges Raise Concerns
Adding to the concerns, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a warning about potential tidal surges in coastal districts of Kerala.
