Delhi-NCR to Experience Rain, Thunderstorms, and Strong Winds

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is forecasting light rainfall in parts of South Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) over the next couple of hours. Along with the rain, the IMD has issued an orange alert for most of Delhi-NCR, warning of gusty winds that could reach up to 70 kmph.

Areas to Expect Showers

The areas most likely to see light showers include: Dwarka, Palam, IGI Airport, Vasant Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Mehrauli, Chhattarpur, IGNOU, Ayanagar, and Deramandi in South Delhi, as well as Faridabad and Ballabhgarh in NCR.

Staying Safe During the Storm

The IMD advises residents to stay indoors and take necessary precautions during the storm.

Weekend Outlook: Partly Cloudy with Relief from Heat

The IMD predicts a partly cloudy sky for Delhi on Saturday, bringing some respite from the recent heat. Temperatures are expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius.

Temperature Fluctuations Ahead

From May 22nd to 28th, Delhi is expected to experience fluctuating weather patterns. Temperatures are predicted to gradually rise throughout the week, peaking at 40 degrees Celsius on May 26th and 28th. The minimum temperature is also expected to increase, starting at 21 degrees Celsius on May 22nd and reaching 29 degrees Celsius by the end of the period.

Heavy Rainfall Alert in Other Parts of India

On Friday night, the IMD issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall over the next two to three hours in several districts across Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh.

Remembering the Recent Storm

Earlier this week, a powerful storm swept through parts of Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday night, tragically claiming at least 50 lives and injuring dozens more. Noida, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Meerut, and Baghpat were among the hardest-hit areas. The storm caused widespread damage, uprooting trees and electric poles and damaging homes and vehicles.
