Andaz Apna Apna Re-release: A Cult Classic Finds New Fans

The iconic Bollywood film ‘Andaz Apna Apna,’ starring Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, and Karisma Kapoor, has been re-released in theaters and is already making waves. Fans are flocking to cinemas to relive the magic of this cult classic, which first hit screens in 1994.

The re-release coincided with several other new films, including Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Ground Zero,’ Sunny Deol’s ‘Jaat,’ and Akshay Kumar and R Madhavan’s ‘Kesari 2.’ Despite this competition, ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ has been proving its enduring appeal.

On its first day, the film grossed Rs 25 lakh, and the excitement continued on Saturday, with a boost in ticket sales to Rs 30 lakh. This brings the total collection to Rs 55 lakh so far. Interestingly, the film had already sold 5,500 tickets in major cinema chains like Inox and Cinepolis on its opening day.

While ‘Kesari 2’ has been the top performer amongst the new releases, with Rs 7 crore on Saturday, ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ is showing strong potential. As a family-friendly comedy with a loyal fanbase, many predict even greater success on Sunday.

It’s worth noting that ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ wasn’t initially a box office smash when it first came out. Despite its lifetime collection of Rs 5.15 crore in India and Rs 7.59 crore worldwide, it was considered a flop at the time.

Director Rajkumar Santoshi, however, believes the film shouldn’t be labeled a failure. He explained in a past interview that it didn’t receive the expected initial response, but later gained popularity through word-of-mouth and grew with publicity. Sadly, it was pulled from theaters prematurely because distributors lacked faith in its success.
