Netflix’s latest offering, ‘The Royals,’ starring Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar with a special appearance by Zeenat Aman, has found itself at the center of a debate. Viewers have criticized the show for its weak storytelling and a perceived lack of chemistry between the lead pair.

Director’s Response to Criticism

Priyanka Ghose, the director of ‘The Royals,’ has responded to the criticism, acknowledging that the show hasn’t resonated with everyone. ‘If it didn’t work for some people, I will try better next time,’ she told India Today. However, she also emphasized that there are viewers who have enjoyed the show and the on-screen chemistry between Khatter and Pednekar.

Defending the Cast and Chemistry

Ghose highlighted the unique dynamic between the two lead actors. ‘With Bhumi’s casting by Netflix, I was actually very open to the idea of trying this new pairing,’ she explained. ‘They are both such powerful actors, and I was excited to see them embody glamorous roles, which goes against both of their works so far.’

Regarding the chemistry, Ghose added, ‘It’s crazy how polarized the feedback has been.’ She also defended Khatter’s portrayal, stating that he is a conscious actor who wouldn’t have agreed to expose himself unnecessarily.

Zeenat Aman’s Cameo Role

Ghose clarified that Zeenat Aman’s appearance was always intended to be a cameo. ‘It was never meant to be a full track. Whenever we have legendary superstars making cameo appearances, we crave more, and the same happened with Zeenat ma’am. As much as I would have loved, the script had only those many scenes,’ she explained.

A Star-Studded Cast

‘The Royals’ also boasts a diverse cast, including Sakshi Tanwar, Milind Soman, Nora Fatehi, Vihaan Samat, Dino Morea, and others in prominent roles.
