Maharashtra Launches Tourism Security Force After Terror Threat

Mumbai: In response to a recent terror attack targeting tourists in Pahalgam, the Maharashtra government is taking proactive steps to enhance security at popular tourist destinations. A new Maharashtra Tourism Security Force is being established and will be deployed at major tourist sites across the state.
This specialized force will be launched in a trial run during the upcoming Mahabaleshwar festival, scheduled from May 2nd to 4th at the picturesque Satara hill station. The pilot phase will continue until August 31st, giving authorities time to evaluate the force’s effectiveness and make adjustments as needed.
Recruitment and Deployment
Personnel for the force will be carefully selected from the experienced ranks of the Maharashtra State Security Corporation. The initial batch of 25 security personnel will be stationed in Mahabaleshwar, ensuring a strong presence during the festival and beyond.
Senior officers appointed by the Satara district superintendent of police will oversee the force, providing guidance and ensuring smooth operations.
Funding and Responsibility
The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) will be responsible for covering the costs associated with the new Tourism Security Force. Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai announced the initiative on Monday, highlighting the government’s commitment to safeguarding tourists and fostering a safe and enjoyable travel experience in Maharashtra.
