SRH Breaks Chepauk Charm, Defeats CSK for First Time Ever

Sunrisers Hyderabad made history on Friday, securing their first-ever win against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This victory came as a surprise to many, as Chepauk has been a fortress for CSK in recent years.
SRH chased down a target of 155 with five wickets to spare, handing CSK their fourth home defeat in the IPL 2025 season. This is tied for the most home defeats CSK has suffered in a single season at Chepauk.
This season has seen a number of teams breach Chepauk’s strong defenses. Royal Challengers Bangalore ended their 17-year losing streak at the venue earlier, while Delhi Capitals snapped their 15-year drought in a resounding victory.
Harshal Patel was the star of the show for SRH, taking four wickets to dismantle CSK’s batting. Captain Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat also chipped in with two wickets each.
CSK’s batting struggled from the start, with Ayush Mhatre top-scoring with 30 and Dewald Brevis managing 42 before being brilliantly caught by Kamindu Mendis.
SRH’s chase was also far from easy. They lost their opening batsman for a duck, but Travis Head and Ishan Kishan provided a quick burst of runs.
A crucial 36-run partnership between Kishan and Aniket Verma steadied the ship for SRH. Kishan scored 44 before falling, but Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Kumar Reddy ultimately sealed the victory for their team.
Noor Ahmad was the most successful bowler for CSK, taking two wickets.
The match also marked a significant milestone for CSK captain MS Dhoni, who became the fourth Indian cricketer to play 400 T20 matches. He joins an elite group that includes Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, and Virat Kohli.
