Trump’s Middle East Tour: A Blind Eye to Gaza’s Suffering?

While Donald Trump is busy signing deals, meeting leaders, and making headlines about the Iran nuclear issue during his Middle East tour, the war in Gaza seems to have been pushed aside. This comes as no surprise considering Israel, with American involvement, has been carrying out a series of airstrikes and targeted assassinations in the Gaza Strip.

Israel’s Aggressive Plans for Gaza

Behind the scenes, Israel has approved a plan to expand its military offensive in Gaza. This plan, pushed by the most extreme right-wing members of Netanyahu’s coalition, goes beyond just defeating Hamas. It seeks to indefinitely occupy the entire territory, essentially forcing the displacement of the Palestinian population.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a right-wing messianic settler, has made these intentions clear, suggesting that within six months, Gaza’s population will be confined to a small strip of land, with the rest of the territory destroyed. This plan amounts to a war crime, and it’s being carried out by individuals who hold key positions in the Israeli government.

Netanyahu’s Desperate Gamble

Netanyahu is trapped in this situation. He relies on the support of these extreme right-wing elements to stay in power and avoid facing his own corruption trial. He can’t afford a new election, nor can he deal with the pressure to investigate the catastrophic failure to prevent the Hamas massacre on October 7th. As a result, he’s forced to appease these dangerous forces.

The Cost of Silence: A Devastating Reality

The consequences of Netanyahu’s desperation are devastating for the Palestinians. Israel has already blocked humanitarian aid, and the situation in Gaza is dire. Hospitals are being bombed, food and water are scarce, and people are living in terror.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has described the situation as “totally intolerable, unacceptable, unbearable and unforgivable.” It’s a desperate plea for the international community to act.

A Call to Action

The international community must hold Israel accountable for its plans to expand the war. They must pressure them to stop the aggression and allow humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza. If they fail to act, they will be complicit in further bloodshed and displacement.
