Trump Wants Apple to Ditch Indian iPhone Factories

Trump’s Plea to Apple: Keep iPhones Out of India
President Donald Trump has made it clear he doesn’t want Apple making iPhones in India. During a recent trip to Qatar, Trump revealed he had a disagreement with Apple CEO Tim Cook about the company’s manufacturing plans.
Trade Tensions and Apple’s Global Plans
Trump stated, “I had a little problem with Tim Cook yesterday. You’re coming in with $500 billion, but now I hear you’re building all over India… We’re not interested in you building in India.” This comment comes after Apple pledged to invest $500 billion in the US over the next four years. However, bringing iPhone production back to the US faces significant hurdles due to a shortage of labor, suppliers, and manufacturing facilities.
Apple has been increasing iPhone production in India in recent years, partly due to escalating trade tensions between the US and China. As reported by The Financial Times in April, Apple plans to source all iPhones sold in the US from India by the end of 2026.
Trump’s Claim of Increased US Production
Despite the challenges, Trump claimed that Apple will be “upping their production” in the US following his conversation with Cook.
