Real ID Takes Flight: New Identification Rules at US Airports

The days of simply showing your driver’s license to fly domestically are over. After years of looming deadlines and delays, the Real ID requirement officially took effect at US airports on Wednesday, marking a major change for air travel.
At LaGuardia Airport in New York, the new reality was on full display. Signs clearly directed passengers: a path for those with Real ID-compliant identification, passports, or other approved forms of ID, and a separate path for those lacking the required documentation.
The transition seemed to go smoothly, with many travelers arriving early, heeding warnings about potential delays and snags. A noticeable presence of TSA agents, airport staff, and police officers ensured a smooth flow, guiding passengers and advising them to have their IDs ready.
