Liev Schreiber Opens Up About Daughter Kai’s Journey

Liev Schreiber is publicly sharing his love and support for his daughter Kai, who recently came out as transgender.

In a recent interview with Variety, the actor revealed that Kai, 17, never formally came out to him or her mother, Naomi Watts. Schreiber shared, ‘Kai was always who Kai is.’ He acknowledged that the most significant moment was when Kai asked them to use her preferred pronouns. ‘To be honest with you, it didn’t feel like that big of a deal to me only because Kai had been so feminine for so long.’

Celebrating Kai’s Strength and Visibility

Schreiber praised Kai’s strength, calling her ‘such a fighter,’ but emphasized the importance of visibility for transgender youth. He stated, ‘It’s important that she goes, ‘Hey, I am trans,’ and, ‘Look at me.'”

Schreiber is actively supporting the LGBTQ+ community by participating in the Ali Forney Center’s ‘A Place at the Table Gala,’ a fundraising event for homeless LGBTQ youth. He expressed his solidarity with these young people, highlighting the lack of resources and support they often face.

A Parent’s Love and Perspective

When asked about parenting a transgender child, Schreiber shared that he avoids offering prescriptive advice, stating it ‘feels like an overstep.’ He also believes that the experience is not fundamentally different from parenting any teenager. ‘Teenagers are a headache,’ he said. ‘They’re hard. It doesn’t matter whether they’re trans or not because you’ll come out of this. But a trans teen is going to be a teen.’

Kai’s Success in Fashion

Kai, Schreiber and Watts’ second child, is pursuing a career in modeling. She recently made her runway debut for Valentino at Paris Fashion Week 2025. The proud father commented on Kai’s Instagram post, saying ‘Beyond beyond Kai,’ while Watts expressed her joy, writing, ‘Be still my beating heart!! ЁЯЩМтЩея╕ПЁЯЩМ Bravo darling ILSM and what a show!!’

Looking Ahead

Schreiber will be seen next in Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Caught Stealing,’ alongside Austin Butler and Zo├л Kravitz. The film is set to release on August 29th.
