Residents in Tennessee and Georgia woke up to a surprising jolt on Saturday morning when a 4.1 magnitude earthquake shook the region.

Epicenter Near Greenback, Tennessee

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake’s epicenter was just outside of Greenback, Tennessee, a small town with a population of about 1,000 people.

The tremors were felt widely, extending as far away as Atlanta, Georgia.

Reports from Across the Region

Immediately after the quake, people living in the area quickly reported their experiences to the U.S. Geological Survey. Reports of shaking came from a variety of locations, including Nashville, Tennessee, and even Charlotte, North Carolina.

Limited Damage Reported

Thankfully, the earthquake caused only minor damage. Early reports to the Geological Survey indicated a few instances of light damage around the epicenter, but no reports of more serious damage.
