Three More Escapees Recaptured in Jailbreak Saga

Three more inmates who escaped from a New Orleans jail earlier this month have been caught, leaving two still at large. Louisiana State Police announced the arrests on Monday, stating that one man was apprehended in Baton Rouge by local law enforcement, while two others were arrested in Walker County, Texas, by Texas officials.

The Audacious Escape

The daring escape unfolded on May 16th when the 10 inmates managed to break out of the jail. They reportedly pried open a faulty cell door, squeezed through a hole behind a toilet, scaled a barbed-wire fence, and disappeared into the night.

It wasn’t until a morning headcount that their absence was discovered. Graffiti left on the wall, reading “To Easy LoL” with an arrow pointing to the gap in the wall, provided a glimpse into the inmates’ audacity.

Security Flaws and Arrests

The escape has exposed multiple security lapses at the jail, prompting investigations and scrutiny. Authorities have identified a jail maintenance worker who was arrested and accused of turning off the water to the toilet, a crucial step that facilitated the escape. The worker claimed he was threatened by one of the inmates into complying.

In addition to the maintenance worker, four other individuals have been arrested for allegedly aiding the escaped inmates after their break.

Recaptures and Ongoing Manhunt

So far, seven of the 10 escaped inmates have been recaptured. Those apprehended include Lenton Vanburen, Leo Tate, and Jermaine Donald, who were recently brought back into custody. The remaining two escapees remain at large.

Background on the Inmates

Many of the men were originally incarcerated awaiting sentencing or trials for alleged violent crimes, including murder. The ongoing manhunt continues, with authorities determined to bring the remaining escapees to justice.
