Rohit Sharma’s Heartwarming Gesture Towards Parents Touches Fans at Wankhede

Mumbai: Indian cricket legend Rohit Sharma unveiled more than just his cricketing prowess at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officially inaugurated the Rohit Sharma Stand, honoring the star batsman at his home ground. But it was Rohit’s touching gestures towards his parents, especially his mother, that truly stole the hearts of fans.
In a scene filled with emotion, Rohit walked down from the stage to escort his parents up, gently guiding his mother by the hand to share this special moment. Later, as the event wrapped up and the crowd swarmed for photos and attention, Rohit was seen shielding his mother from the commotion, carefully leading her and his father through the enthusiastic onlookers.
The heartwarming video clips went viral, with fans across social media praising his humility and deep-rooted family values.
The Divecha Pavilion Level 3, now named the Rohit Sharma Stand, celebrates the journey of a boy from Borivali who rose to become one of cricket’s most prolific batsmen.
In a visibly emotional speech, Rohit paid tribute to those who supported him throughout his journey. “It’ll be a surreal feeling on the 21st (May) when I come here and play against Delhi Capitals representing Mumbai Indians,” he said. “To have a stand in my name is incredibly special. But it’ll mean even more when I play here for India again someday.”
What truly resonated in his speech was his heartfelt gratitude towards his family. “So many people, especially my mom and dad, my brother, his wife, and my wife — very special people in my life — have sacrificed so much for me to be standing here today,” Rohit said, his voice filled with genuine emotion.
The entire Mumbai Indians squad was present to honor their former captain. Rohit, ever the leader, lightened the mood with a joke: “I know my team is waiting for my speech to end so they can start training!”
The day was a celebration of cricketing legacy, with Ajit Wadekar and Sharad Pawar also being honored with dedicated stands, and the MCA Lounge named after Amol Kale.
