Rishabh Pant’s IPL Struggles: ‘It’s Not Right to Focus on One Individual’

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant is facing a tough time in the IPL 2025. Despite being bought for a whopping ₹27 crore, his bat hasn’t come alive this season. This continued against Mumbai Indians on Sunday, where Pant was dismissed early for just four runs.
After the match, Pant addressed his poor run, saying that it’s unfair to single out one player in a team sport. ‘Eventually, it’s a team game. Yes, one player makes the difference, but every time if you take out the individual, it’s not the right thing to do, I guess,’ he said.
A Struggling Season
In 10 matches, Pant has managed only 110 runs, averaging a modest 12.22 with a strike rate of 98.21. His scores have been inconsistent, ranging from 0 to 63.
Pant admitted to feeling the pressure of his low scores, saying, ‘In a season like this, where things are not going your way, you’re going to start questioning yourself as a player – that’s not something you want to do.’
Reactions from the Commentary Box
Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson was visibly surprised by Pant’s dismissal, calling it an ‘uncharacteristic’ shot. ‘I just can’t get my head around this. Premeditation from Rishabh Pant, the second ball that he has faced. It’s such a hard shot,’ Watson commented.
Even former New Zealand pacer Danny Morrison was left speechless by Pant’s choice of shot. ‘Wow. Just wow,’ he exclaimed.
Looking Ahead
LSG, currently at sixth place in the points table, will face Punjab Kings on Sunday, May 4, at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. Pant will be hoping to turn his form around and lead his team to victory.
