The much-awaited IPL 2025 clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata ended in a dramatic fashion – a no result! Heavy rain poured down, forcing the match to be called off, marking the first abandoned match of the season.

KKR were just getting their chase underway, needing a massive 202 runs to win. They had started well, reaching 7 runs without losing a wicket in the first over, when the heavens opened. Despite a long wait of almost 90 minutes, the rain didn’t relent, leaving the officials with no choice but to call off the match.

The abandoned match meant a point each for both teams. Punjab Kings, who had earlier put up a strong performance, climbing to fourth place in the points table with 11 points (five wins, three losses, one no result). This boosts their chances of making it to the playoffs. Kolkata Knight Riders remain in seventh place with seven points (three wins, five losses, one no result).

Earlier, Punjab Kings had set a challenging target for KKR. They scored a formidable 201 for 4, thanks to brilliant half-centuries from Priyansh Arya (69 off 35 balls) and Prabhsimran Singh (83 off 49 balls). They put on a blistering 120-run opening partnership in just 11.5 overs. The KKR bowlers, led by Vaibhav Arora (2/34) and Andre Russell (1/27), fought back well in the later overs, limiting the damage.
