Preity Zinta Sues Punjab Kings Co-Owners

Bollywood actress and Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta is embroiled in a legal battle with her fellow co-directors, Ness Wadia and Mohit Burman. Zinta has filed a lawsuit in a Chandigarh court, challenging the legitimacy of an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held on April 21st.

Allegations of Procedural Violations

The dispute stems from alleged procedural irregularities during the EGM, particularly concerning the appointment of a new director for KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, the company that owns the IPL team Punjab Kings. Zinta claims that the meeting failed to comply with the protocols outlined in the Companies Act, 2013, and other relevant regulations.

She had previously raised concerns about the meeting in an email dated April 10th, but her objections were reportedly ignored. Despite voicing her dissent during the meeting, accompanied by director Karan Paul, both Zinta and Paul opposed the nomination of Muneesh Khanna as a new director. However, Burman, backed by Wadia, proceeded with the appointment.

Zinta’s Legal Demands

In her legal filing, Zinta seeks a court order to nullify the meeting and prevent Khanna from assuming his directorial role. She also requests a halt to the implementation of any decisions made during the meeting.

Furthermore, the lawsuit aims to restrict the company from holding any board or general meetings without the presence of both Zinta and Karan Paul, and excluding Muneesh Khanna, until the case is resolved.

Punjab Kings’ Success Amidst Controversy

Despite the ongoing legal dispute, Zinta’s Punjab Kings have been shining brightly in the IPL 2023 season. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the team has qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2014. Currently positioned third in the standings with 17 points from 12 matches, they are vying for a top-two finish.

Their upcoming league matches include crucial clashes against Delhi Capitals in Jaipur on May 24th and Mumbai Indians on May 26th.
