IPL 2025: Preity Zinta Outraged Over ‘Unacceptable’ Third Umpire Error

Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta took to social media platform X to publicly criticize the third umpire following a controversial call during her team’s loss to Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025.

The Controversial Moment

The incident occurred in the 15th over of Punjab’s innings. Shashank Singh appeared to have hit a six off Mohit Sharma’s delivery. However, the third umpire ruled it a single, sparking immediate outrage.

Karun Nair, fielding at the boundary, initially signaled that the ball had crossed the rope. Despite this, the third umpire determined that Nair’s foot hadn’t touched the boundary, denying Punjab Kings five crucial runs.

Zinta Speaks Out

Zinta, clearly frustrated with the verdict, took to X to express her disappointment. She wrote, “In such a high-profile tournament with so much technology at the third umpire’s disposal, such mistakes are unacceptable & simply shouldn’t happen. I spoke to Karun after the game & he confirmed it was DEFINITELY a 6! I rest my case!”

Impact on the Match

The controversial decision became a major talking point, especially given the playoff implications of the game. Punjab Kings suffered a six-wicket defeat, significantly impacting their chances of securing a top-two finish.

With the season nearing its end, Punjab Kings now need to beat Mumbai Indians in their final league game and rely on other results going their way. Even a win might not be enough, as Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans are also vying for a spot in Qualifier 1.
