IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians’ Dharamsala Trip Delayed by Airport Closures
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is facing some unexpected hurdles due to Operation Sindoor, a security operation that has led to the closure of airports in Chandigarh. As a result, the Mumbai Indians (MI), who were scheduled to fly to Dharamsala on Wednesday, May 7th, have had to postpone their trip.
MI’s original plan involved flying to Dharamsala via Chandigarh with an overnight stop. However, the closure of Chandigarh airport has forced the team to stay put in Mumbai until further notice. The situation is causing disruption throughout the league, with airports in many northern cities shut down and numerous flights canceled.
Repercussions and Uncertainty
The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is currently working to find solutions and relocate some games, including those scheduled in Dharamsala. This poses a challenge as two other teams, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, are already based in Dharamsala and have a match scheduled for May 8th. Their travel arrangements are also uncertain given the surrounding airport closures.
The game between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, scheduled for May 11th in Dharamsala, is particularly at risk. Sources within the IPL suggest that the BCCI is exploring alternative venues not just for Dharamsala games but for all North Indian matches. Mumbai is being considered as a potential relocation option, with the Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and DY Patil Stadium all possible choices.
Given the limited time available and the need to set up a production crew, the Wankhede Stadium might be the most feasible option for the BCCI. However, a final decision is yet to be made, and the situation is evolving rapidly.
Looking Ahead
The BCCI is actively holding meetings to address these challenges and find suitable solutions. An official update on the rearranged schedule is expected soon.
