Gavaskar Doubts Kohli and Rohit’s 2027 World Cup Participation

Gavaskar Casts Doubt on Kohli and Rohit’s 2027 World Cup Chances
Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary Indian batsman, has weighed in on the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in One Day Internationals (ODIs), expressing doubts about their participation in the 2027 World Cup.
Kohli and Sharma recently retired from Test cricket, paving the way for a new generation. While they will continue playing ODIs, aiming for the 2027 World Cup title, Gavaskar believes their age might pose a challenge.
Gavaskar, while acknowledging their phenomenal contributions to the ODI format, highlighted the selection committee’s perspective: ‘They will be looking at ‘will they be able to be in the team for the 2027 World Cup? Will they be able to make the kind of contributions they have been making?’ That will be the thought process of the selection committee.’
‘Even God Can’t Drop Them’ – Gavaskar’s Bold Statement
Despite this, Gavaskar added a caveat, saying, ‘If they keep scoring hundreds and hundreds, even God can’t drop them.’ He, however, ultimately doesn’t see them playing in the 2027 tournament.
Kohli’s ODI journey has been remarkable, scoring 9230 runs in 123 matches with 30 centuries at an average of 46.85. Rohit Sharma, though a late bloomer in the format, has amassed 4,301 runs in 67 matches with 12 centuries.
