Ganguly Calls for Cutting Cricket Ties with Pakistan After Deadly Terror Attack

Former Indian cricket captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is demanding a complete break in cricketing relationships with Pakistan following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the loss of 26 lives.
Speaking to reporters in Kolkata, Ganguly made his stance clear. “100 percent, this (breaking ties with Pakistan) should be done. Strict action is necessary. It is no joke that such things happen every year. Terrorism cannot be tolerated,” he said.
This isn’t the first time tensions between the two nations have impacted cricket. India and Pakistan haven’t played a bilateral series since 2012-13 due to strained political relations. India hasn’t toured Pakistan since 2008, and even during ICC events, they’ve opted for alternative arrangements, like the hybrid model used in the recent Champions Trophy, to avoid playing in Pakistan.
The latest attack has heightened tensions further. India has already taken strong measures against Pakistan, including suspending the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme and scaling down diplomatic staff. The Indian government is also considering cutting off water supply to Pakistan as a retaliatory measure.
This situation highlights the deep-rooted political conflicts that continue to affect sports diplomacy between India and Pakistan.
