Indian cricket fans got some bad news ahead of the upcoming England Test series. Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has reportedly informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that his body can’t handle playing all five Tests.

A Blow for India’s Bowling Attack

This news comes as a major setback for the Indian team, especially considering that Bumrah played all five Tests against Australia earlier this year, even leading the team in the final match after Rohit Sharma stepped down due to poor form. Bumrah unfortunately suffered a back injury during that series, which India lost 1-3.

Shami’s Fitness Concerns Add to the Woes

Adding to India’s bowling woes, Mohammed Shami is also uncertain for the England tour. While Shami has recovered from a long-standing ankle injury and is bowling for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he hasn’t played enough red-ball cricket to be fully match-ready for the rigorous demands of a Test series.

Concerns about Shami’s fitness led to a BCCI medical staff member traveling to Lucknow to assess him ahead of his team’s IPL match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The Selection Dilemma

The BCCI selection committee is now facing a tough decision. They need to find replacements for both Bumrah and potentially Shami, leaving them with a depleted bowling attack for the crucial England series.

The series against England kicks off on June 20th, and the BCCI is expected to announce the squad on May 24th. The news about Bumrah’s availability will undoubtedly influence the final selection.
