Will Arsenal Overthrow PSG’s Lead? Shearer Predicts Champions League Twist

Shearer Sees a PSG-Barca Final
Football legend Alan Shearer has made a bold prediction for the Champions League semi-finals, suggesting a twist in the tale that will see both Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona reach the final.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Shearer, alongside Gary Lineker, discussed the upcoming clashes. While Lineker acknowledged the challenge facing Arsenal, who are trailing 1-0 from the first leg against PSG, Shearer remained confident in the French side’s ability to secure victory.
Arsenal’s Mountain to Climb
Arsenal currently find themselves facing a tricky situation. While a top-five Premier League finish is likely, they’ve struggled to match the heights of champions Liverpool this season. Reaching the Champions League final would be a massive achievement, marking their first since 2006, but overcoming PSG in Paris seems like a daunting task.
Lineker admitted that while Arsenal shouldn’t be completely ruled out, he believes it’s a tough ask for the young Gunners squad to overturn the deficit.
A Bold Prediction
Shearer’s prediction goes beyond just PSG winning. He believes that Inter Milan, who are currently trailing Barcelona in their semi-final tie, will also pull off a surprise upset. Despite Shearer’s confidence in a Barcelona victory, he expects a tight and unpredictable encounter.
“I think PSG will beat Arsenal and I think there will be a twist in the Inter-Barca game, but I think Barca will just edge it. So, PSG-Barca final,” Shearer stated.
Can Arsenal Silence the Critics?
The pressure is on for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. Reaching the Champions League final would be a huge boost for the team and silence some of the criticism directed at him this season. Arteta is urging his players to channel their frustration from a recent 2-1 home defeat to Bournemouth into a powerful performance against PSG.
“We have created a lot of rage, anger, frustration and a bad feeling in the tummy. So [we must] make sure that we use that for Wednesday to have a massive performance in Paris, win the game and be in the final,” Arteta said.
