Maharashtra Day 2025: Traffic Alerts and Celebrations in Mumbai

Maharashtra Day: A Celebration of Statehood
Maharashtra Day, also known as Maharashtra Din, is a special day for the people of Maharashtra. Celebrated every year on May 1st, it marks the formation of the Marathi-speaking state in 1960. This year, the celebrations coincide with International Labour Day.
The day commemorates the division of the Bombay State into Gujarat and Maharashtra. While Gujarat was primarily Gujarati and Kutchi speaking, Maharashtra became home to Marathi and Konkani speakers.
