CBI Raids Over Bribery Allegations Against South Central Railway Official

CBI Conducts Searches in Telangana and Maharashtra
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a major crackdown on alleged bribery within the South Central Railway. On Friday, the agency conducted searches at multiple locations in Telangana and Maharashtra following a case registered against Syed Munavar Basha, a Divisional Operations Manager at the railway headquarters in Secunderabad.
The Accusations
Basha is accused of demanding and accepting bribes from candidates vying for coveted positions like Traffic Inspectors and Chief Controllers within the Operating Department. According to a complaint filed by the Deputy Chief Vigilance Officer of South Central Railways, Basha allegedly solicited bribes totaling Rs 1,25,000 through UPI transfers from four candidates and an additional Rs 40,000 in cash from another candidate between July and August 2023.
Investigations further revealed suspicious transactions worth Rs 31,62,500 deposited into Basha’s and his son’s bank accounts, exceeding his known sources of income.
The CBI’s Action
Based on these allegations, the CBI registered a case against Basha and initiated searches at his residences in Solapur (two locations) and in Hyderabad and Guntakal. During these searches, the CBI recovered several incriminating documents.
