Maharashtra Deputy CM Opens Ethanol Production Plant

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar recently inaugurated a new ethanol production plant in Bidri, set up by the Dudhganga Vedganga Cooperative Sugar Factory. The event highlighted the crucial role ethanol plays in India’s clean fuel initiative and its economic benefits for farmers.

A Cleaner, Greener Future

Speaking at the inauguration, Deputy CM Pawar stressed the positive impact of the government’s ethanol policy. He noted that it has significantly boosted ethanol production from sugarcane juice and molasses, reducing India’s reliance on imported crude oil. Ethanol is considered a cleaner fuel alternative to petrol, leading to a decrease in harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

Ethanol Blending Takes Off

India is making impressive strides in its Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme. According to the latest data, ethanol blending in petrol reached an impressive 19.7 percent in April 2025. Over the entire period from November 2024 to April 2025, the cumulative average ethanol blending stood at 18.6 percent.

Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) received a substantial 87.9 crore liters of ethanol under the EBP program in April 2025 alone, bringing the total volume received from November 2024 to April 2025 to a remarkable 457.4 crore liters. The total ethanol blended under the EBP program in April 2025 was 86 crore liters, pushing the cumulative total from November 2024 to April 2025 to 477.1 crore liters.
