Karim Janat Makes History: 10th Afghan Player in IPL

A New Face in Indian Cricket
Karim Janat, an Afghan all-rounder, has etched his name in the history books by becoming the 10th cricketer from Afghanistan to grace the Indian Premier League (IPL). He made his debut for the Gujarat Titans on Monday, April 28, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, marking a significant milestone for Afghan cricket.
Janat joins a growing list of Afghan talent in the IPL, including Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Noor Ahmad, Gulbadin Naib, Naveen-ul-Haq.
It’s worth noting that a couple of other Afghan players, Zahir Khan Pakteen and Allah Ghazanfar, were part of IPL teams in the past but couldn’t play due to injuries.
A Star in the Making
The Gujarat Titans acquired Janat for Rs 75 lakhs in the mega auction held in Jeddah last November. With 2494 runs and 118 wickets in 160 T20 matches, Janat’s impressive record speaks volumes about his potential. He has also represented Afghanistan in two Tests, three ODIs, and 67 T20 Internationals since his debut in December 2016.
The Titans are currently aiming to regain their top spot in the IPL standings after losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday.
