YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra Arrested: Accused of Spying for Pakistan

Haryana YouTuber Arrested for Alleged Spy Links with Pakistan
A prominent Haryana YouTuber, Jyoti Malhotra, has been arrested on charges of espionage, accused of passing sensitive information to Pakistani intelligence operatives. The arrest, made by Haryana Police on May 16, 2023, has sent shockwaves through the community and sparked a major investigation involving the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Intelligence Bureau (IB), and military intelligence.
The Accusation: Malhotra, who ran a popular travel channel called ‘Travel with JO’ with over 387,000 subscribers, is alleged to have been recruited by Pakistani intelligence as an asset. Police investigations indicate she was in contact with a Pakistani official stationed at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi during the heightened military tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2023.
Modest Income, Luxurious Travels: Police are scrutinizing Malhotra’s financial transactions and travel history. Her known sources of income were reportedly insufficient to justify her extensive travel to countries like Pakistan, China, and others.
Tracing the Network: Malhotra’s arrest is part of a larger crackdown on a suspected Pakistan-linked spy network operating in North India. Over the past two weeks, 12 individuals have been apprehended in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh on similar charges.
Digital Footprint Under Scrutiny: Authorities are analyzing Malhotra’s laptop and phone for evidence. They are also interviewing individuals who were in contact with her, seeking to establish the extent of the alleged network and its activities.
Targeting Influencers: Haryana SP Shashank Kumar Sawan revealed that Pakistani intelligence operatives are increasingly targeting social media influencers like Malhotra to gather information. This case highlights the evolving tactics used by intelligence agencies in the digital age.
Expelled Diplomat: Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a Pakistani diplomat who was expelled from India on May 13, 2023, for allegedly engaging in espionage, is believed to have played a role in recruiting Malhotra.
Other Arrests: The Punjab Police have also arrested Guzala and Yameen Mohamad from Malerkotla district for their alleged involvement in leaking sensitive military information to Pakistan.
