Heartbreaking Accident: Helicopter Crashes in Uttarakhand

A tragic helicopter crash in Uttarakhand has claimed the lives of five people and left one injured. The incident occurred on Thursday morning near Gangnani, on the Gangotri National Highway.

Devastating Loss of Life

According to authorities, the helicopter, belonging to Heli Aerotrans Company, was en route to Harsil from the Sahastradhara helipad in Dehradun. It had seven people on board, including the pilot. Five passengers died instantly, while one succumbed to injuries during treatment.

The victims, including the pilot, were comprised of five women and one man. Four passengers hailed from Mumbai, while two were from Andhra Pradesh. A 51-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh is currently hospitalized with injuries.

Swift Response from Emergency Teams

Upon receiving reports of the crash around 8:45 am, emergency response teams, including police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire department personnel, and medical teams, rushed to the scene. They faced a daunting task – the helicopter had plunged into a deep gorge, estimated to be 200-250 meters.

The SDRF, with the assistance of local police and other emergency units, meticulously established a base at the crash site and began a perilous descent into the gorge to carry out rescue operations. The pilot of the ill-fated helicopter was identified as Captain Robin Singh.

Chief Minister Expresses Grief and Orders Investigation

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his profound sorrow over the tragic incident. He assured the public that immediate relief and rescue operations were underway and that instructions had been issued to provide all necessary assistance to the injured.

The Chief Minister further directed a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.
