Tragedy in Delhi: Fire Destroys 800 Homes, Claims Lives of Two Children

Heartbreaking Fire Devastates Rohini Jhuggi Cluster

A devastating fire ripped through a jhuggi cluster in Delhi’s Rohini area on Sunday morning, leaving two young children dead and five others injured. The blaze engulfed over 800 shanties, reducing them to ashes in a matter of hours.

Firefighters battled tirelessly for three hours to contain the inferno, which was reported around 11:55 am. Despite their heroic efforts, the fire caused widespread destruction. Thick plumes of smoke billowed into the sky as the flames raged through the densely packed shanties, spreading fear and chaos among the residents.

The charred bodies of a two-and-a-half-year-old and a three-year-old were tragically recovered from the debris.

Challenges Faced by Firefighters

The fire brigade faced significant challenges in tackling the blaze. The jhuggi cluster was located near an apartment complex with high boundary walls, making access for fire engines difficult. This forced the firefighters to line up their vehicles one behind the other, delaying their response.

Cause of the Fire Under Investigation

Police are currently investigating the cause of the fire. Preliminary reports suggest it might have started within the cluster itself. Although there are no organized electrical wiring systems in the area, several LPG cylinders were found, which could have contributed to the rapid spread of the flames.

Search and Cooling Operations Continue

Search and rescue operations are still underway in the affected area, and cooling operations continue to prevent any further flare-ups. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by residents living in densely populated slums and the need for improved safety measures.
