Terror Suspects in Andhra Pradesh: 7-Day Custody Granted

Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh – A local court has granted a seven-day police custody for two individuals suspected of terrorism. Siraj Ur Rehman (29) and Syed Sameer (28) were apprehended in a joint operation by the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Police last Saturday.
The arrests came after the discovery of explosives, including ammonia, sulphur, and aluminium powder, at Rehman’s residence in Vizianagaram. Police say Rehman confessed to making a bomb, leading to Sameer’s arrest in Hyderabad.
According to Vizianagaram Additional Superintendent of Police Sowmya Lata, both suspects are currently held at Visakhapatnam Central Prison. The ASP stated, “If we receive orders from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the case will be handed over to the National Investigation Agency. Until then, police will interrogate them during the custody.”
While both are suspected of radical activities, authorities haven’t found any direct links to ISIS or any other known terror organization.
The case against Rehman and Sameer includes charges under the Explosive Substances Act, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
