Tamil Nadu vs. Centre: A Clash Over Education Funds

The Tamil Nadu government has taken the Centre to the Supreme Court over a freeze on ₹2,151 crore in education funds. The state accuses the Union government of overstepping its boundaries by tying the release of these funds to its acceptance of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the PM SHRI Schools scheme.

In a legal suit filed through advocate Sabarish Subramanian, Tamil Nadu argues that these coercive tactics are not only illegal but also contradict the state’s own legislation, particularly its longstanding two-language formula. The state is seeking a total of ₹2291.3 crores, which includes 6% interest on the principal amount.
