Student Spying Scandal Rocks Haryana: Sharing Sensitive Info with Pakistan

Haryana Student Arrested for Alleged Spying on India
A 25-year-old college student from Haryana has been arrested on suspicion of spying for Pakistan. Devendra Singh Dhillon, a political science student at Patiala’s Khalsa College, was apprehended in Kaithal on May 12th. According to authorities, Dhillon uploaded photos of guns and pistols to his Facebook account, raising suspicions.
Sharing Sensitive Information
During questioning, Dhillon confessed to traveling to Pakistan through the Kartarpur corridor in November 2022. He allegedly shared sensitive information about Indian military installations, including images of the Patiala military cantonment, with officers from Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).
Kaithal Police Superintendent Aastha Modi revealed that Pakistani intelligence officers had showered Dhillon with money as an incentive for his activities.
Forensic Investigation Underway
Police have seized Dhillon’s phone and are conducting a forensic examination. They are also investigating his bank accounts to trace the flow of money from Pakistani officers. This arrest follows another similar case in Haryana just days earlier. A 24-year-old security guard named Nauman Ilahi was arrested in Panipat for allegedly providing information to Pakistan.
Crackdown on Espionage
These arrests come amidst a period of relative calm along the India-Pakistan border since a ceasefire agreement was reached on May 10th. The ceasefire followed India’s military strikes on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7th, in response to the Pahalgam attack in which 26 civilians were killed on April 22nd.
