RSS Chief Says ‘Teaching Lesson to Hooligans Is Also a Religion’

In the wake of a deadly terrorist attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat made a controversial statement about the nature of India’s response to violence. Bhagwat, speaking at a public event, emphasized that while non-violence is deeply ingrained in India’s culture, sometimes ‘teaching a lesson’ to those who resort to evil is also necessary.
This comes after 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed in Pahalgam by Pakistan-backed terrorists. Bhagwat condemned the attack, stating that the slain individuals were targeted based on their religion, adding that Hindus would never commit such an act. He called for a strong response to the violence, drawing a parallel to the Hindu epic Ramayana, where Lord Rama ultimately killed the demon king Ravana after giving him a chance to repent.
Bhagwat stressed the importance of unity within Indian society, suggesting that a united front would deter future attacks. He stated that while hatred and hostility are not inherent to India’s nature, enduring harm silently is not a solution either. He believes a truly non-violent person must also possess strength, which should be visible when necessary to protect the nation.
