Rains Cause NH-66 Road Collapse: Kerala High Court Holds NHAI Accountable

Kerala High Court Takes Aim at NHAI Over Highway Collapse
The Kerala High Court has publicly criticized the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) following the collapse of a section of NH-66, a crucial highway connecting Kerala’s coastal towns. The incident, attributed to heavy rains, highlighted concerns about infrastructure resilience in the face of climate change.
NHAI Responds and Pledges Action
Representing NHAI, advocate Bindan Chandran assured the court that the situation was under close watch. He stated that water damage was the primary culprit behind the collapse and that action had already been taken against the contractors responsible for the damaged portions of the highway. These contractors have been blacklisted, effectively barring them from future NHAI projects.
Repairs and Prevention
Chandran further emphasized that NHAI was prepared to implement any necessary structural changes on the affected stretches of the highway to prevent similar incidents from happening again. He added that NHAI officials were already on site, working with all relevant stakeholders to develop a comprehensive plan for repairs and long-term solutions.
