Fresh Encounter in Pulwama: Three Terrorists Killed
In a swift operation on Thursday morning, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district eliminated three terrorists affiliated with the Hizbul Mujahideen terror group. The encounter took place in the Nader Tral area of Awantipora, following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the region.
The Cordon and Search Operation
The Indian Army, J&K Police, and Srinagar Sector CRPF launched a cordon and search operation based on intelligence gathered by an intelligence agency. Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity, and when challenged, the terrorists opened heavy fire, leading to a fierce gunfight. The operation is still ongoing.
Another Encounter in South Kashmir
This encounter comes just two days after a separate operation in Shopian, South Kashmir, where three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed in an operation named ‘Operation Keller’. During ‘Operation Keller’, a significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered, including rifles, grenades, and ammunitions.
Operation Keller and Operation Sindoor
‘Operation Keller’ was launched on May 13 by the Indian Army following intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the Shopian district. This operation followed ‘Operation Sindoor’, launched on May 7, to target terrorism supported by Pakistan.
Top LeT Commander Killed
Shahid Kuttay, a top LeT commander, was among the three terrorists killed in ‘Operation Keller’. Kuttay, who joined the terror ranks in 2023, was a ‘Category A’ terrorist and a significant figure in LeT. His residence was demolished by authorities following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists.
