PM Modi Speaks Out: India and Pakistan Agree to Ceasefire After Border Tensions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the nation at 8 pm today, marking his first speech since the recent ceasefire agreement with Pakistan following a period of intense border skirmishes.
Operation Sindoor: The Background
The current situation stems from Operation Sindoor, launched by India on May 7th in retaliation for a brutal terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22nd. A group of terrorists, linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, killed 26 people, including 24 Indian tourists, a Nepalese tourist, and a local guide.
Following the attack, India took a series of diplomatic steps, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty, revoking Pakistani visas, and closing the Attari border. The retaliatory strikes targeted over 9 locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, aimed at dismantling terror infrastructure and neutralizing key operatives.
A Wave of Violence and a Diplomatic Resolution
Pakistan responded with a barrage of drone and missile attacks along the border, escalating the violence. The situation intensified further with shelling along the Line of Control and the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir. India, however, maintained a measured approach, conducting precise airstrikes against military installations, radar sites, and ammunition depots deep within Pakistan.
Amidst the growing tension, US President Donald Trump announced that India and Pakistan had agreed to a ceasefire, a development confirmed by India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. While India maintains that the ceasefire was initiated by a call from a top Pakistani military official, the US role in brokering the agreement remains unclear.
Looking Ahead
India has asserted that any future acts of terror from Pakistan will be considered an act of war and met with a decisive response.
