PM Modi Inaugurates ‘Rising North East Investors Summit’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off the ‘Rising North East Investors Summit’ on Friday, May 23, 2025, emphasizing the remarkable progress the region is making and the government’s commitment to further accelerate its growth.
Addressing a gathering that included chief ministers of the Northeast states, union ministers, bureaucrats, diplomats, and top industry leaders like Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, and Anil Agarwal, Mr. Modi highlighted the region’s diversity as its greatest asset.
A Shift from Frontier to Frontrunner
He stated that the Northeast is transitioning from being known as a ‘frontier’ to becoming a ‘frontrunner’ of growth. Once associated with conflict, Mr. Modi pointed out that over 10,000 youths in the region have abandoned violence in the past decade.
Mr. Modi assured that his government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards both terrorism and Naxalism.
Focus on Investment and Opportunity
The two-day summit aims to showcase the Northeast as a land of opportunity, attracting both domestic and international investment. It brings together key stakeholders, investors, and policymakers on a single platform.
The event follows a series of pre-summit activities, such as roadshows, state-level roundtables, and meetings with ambassadors and bilateral chambers, organized with the support of both state and central governments.
Key Investment Sectors
The summit will feature ministerial sessions, business-to-government sessions, business-to-business meetings, startup showcases, and exhibitions highlighting policies and initiatives taken by state governments and central ministries to promote investment.
Priority sectors for investment promotion include tourism and hospitality, agro-food processing, textiles, handlooms and handicrafts, healthcare, education and skill development, information technology, infrastructure and logistics, energy, entertainment, and sports.
