PM Modi Meets Military Leaders, Vows ‘Crushing Blow’ to Terrorism
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with top military leaders in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss India’s response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Sources say Modi assured the armed forces of his complete support, stating they have “complete operational freedom to decide on the mode, targets and timing of our response”.
The meeting, held at Modi’s residence, was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Strengthening Security Measures
Following the attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people, the government has taken several steps to strengthen security measures. A Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting was held on April 23rd, where the government decided to put the Indus Waters Treaty on hold, downgrade diplomatic ties with Pakistan, expel diplomats, and close the Attari-Wagah border.
The government has also asked all states to ensure that no Pakistani national remains in India beyond the set deadline for leaving.
National Resolve Against Terrorism
Prime Minister Modi has vowed to bring those responsible for the attack to justice, stating “India will identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers” and that India will “pursue them to the ends of the earth”. An all-party meeting saw political leaders from across the spectrum expressing their full support for the government’s actions.
Home Secretary Reviews Security
On Tuesday, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan chaired a meeting with heads of paramilitary forces and senior security officials to review the security situation and coordinate counter-terrorism efforts.
