Tensions are soaring between India and Pakistan after a deadly terrorist attack in the Pahalgam region of Indian-administered Kashmir. 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed in the tragic incident.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the Federal Interior Minister, has accused India of using terrorism to achieve its goals. He made these strong statements at a press conference in Lahore, suggesting that India can’t stand Pakistan’s economic progress.

Naqvi called for an international investigation into the attack, claiming Pakistan is ready to cooperate fully with any neutral party. He insisted that the world should see how India, despite being a democracy, resorts to terrorism to advance its interests.

Adding fuel to the fire, Naqvi warned India that Pakistan will fight back with everything it has if India tries to suppress its rights.

In response to the attack, India has taken several retaliatory measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari-Wagah border checkpoint, and halting all Pakistani visas. Pakistan has hit back by suspending the Simla Agreement and closing its airspace to Indian aircraft. This escalating situation has brought relations between the two nuclear-armed nations to a dangerous low point.

The attack has also cast a shadow over cricket ties between India and Pakistan. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has called for a complete boycott of Pakistan in all cricket matches, including ICC events, saying that terrorism cannot be condoned.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi expressed regret over India’s quick accusation against Pakistan without any evidence.

This tragic incident and the resulting diplomatic fallout highlight the deep-seated tensions and mistrust that continue to plague the relationship between India and Pakistan.
