Pakistan to Pay Millions in Compensation to Family of Terrorist Masood Azhar

In a shocking move, the Pakistan government is considering paying millions in compensation to the family of Masood Azhar, the leader of the terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). This comes after India carried out airstrikes against JeM terror camps in Bahawalpur, Pakistan, under Operation Sindoor.
A Controversial Compensation Package
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore (about $120,000) for each person killed in the airstrikes. Among those killed were Azhar’s sister, her husband, a nephew and his wife, a niece, and five children from his extended family. If Azhar is the sole surviving legal heir, he could receive a staggering Rs 14 crore (about $1.7 million).
This decision has sparked outrage and disbelief across the subcontinent. India, which carried out the airstrikes in response to the JeM’s involvement in the 2001 Indian Parliament attack and the 2016 Pathankot attack, is expected to closely monitor the situation.
Rebuilding and Concerns
The Pakistani government’s compensation package also includes promises to rebuild structures destroyed in the airstrikes. However, Indian defense sources maintain that the airstrikes were precise and targeted only terror infrastructure, avoiding civilian areas. This raises concerns about whether the rebuilt structures will once again be used for terrorist activities.
The situation highlights the complex relationship between India and Pakistan and the ongoing challenge of combating terrorism in the region.
