Pakistan PM Reveals Gen. Munir’s ‘Panic Call’ After India Strikes Airbase
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has publicly acknowledged for the first time that Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir called him at 2:30 am to inform him about India’s precision strikes on the Nur Khan Air Base and other strategic targets. This revelation came after a four-day period of intense cross-border drone and missile exchanges between the two nations.
Background of the Conflict
The strikes, carried out under the codename Operation Sindoor, were India’s response to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd that claimed 26 lives. India launched the operation in the early hours of May 7th, targeting militant infrastructure across the border.
Pakistan retaliated with strikes on Indian military sites on May 8th, 9th, and 10th, but faced a powerful counter-attack from Indian forces. The escalating tensions finally culminated in a ceasefire agreement on May 10th.
Shehbaz Sharif’s Account
Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his gratitude to friendly countries, particularly U.S. President Donald Trump, who he claimed played an “active role” in facilitating the truce. He also visited the family of Squadron Leader Usman Yousaf, who was killed in the Indian strikes. In a statement, Shehbaz lauded the Pakistani armed forces and the nation’s resilience throughout the conflict.
This marks the second observance of Youm-e-Tashakkur, a day of gratitude, following the ceasefire announcement. Rallies were held across Pakistan on Sunday to honor the armed forces’ response to India’s actions.
Pakistan’s Stance
President Asif Ali Zardari, in a separate statement, reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and core national interests.
