Pakistan Breaks Ceasefire, Amritsar Residents Told to Stay Indoors

Pakistan Violates Ceasefire, Amritsar on High Alert
Amritsar, India is on high alert after Pakistan broke a newly agreed-upon ceasefire, prompting authorities to urge residents to stay indoors. The city, located close to the border, is under a ‘red alert’ following the incident.
Power Restored, but Warning Remains
Despite restoring power, Amritsar Deputy Commissioner issued a statement at 5:24 am, warning residents that sirens would sound, indicating the ongoing red alert. ‘Please don’t move out of your house; stay indoors and away from the window,’ the statement urged, adding, ‘We will be informing you when we get the green signal. Please ensure compliance and please don’t panic.’
Ceasefire Announcement and Subsequent Violations
The ceasefire was initially announced on social media by US President Donald Trump, followed by a formal statement from Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Trump hailed the agreement as a ‘FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,’ praising both countries for using ‘common sense and great intelligence.’
However, just hours after the announcement, Jammu and Kashmir experienced a series of drone sightings and explosions. Security forces were deployed and engaged air defense systems to neutralize the threats.
India Condemns Pakistan’s Actions
At an emergency press briefing at 11 pm, Misri confirmed that Pakistan had violated the ceasefire earlier in the evening. He called on Islamabad to take ‘appropriate steps’ to address the situation with ‘seriousness and responsibility.’ Misri stated, ‘This is a breach of the understanding arrived at earlier today.’ He also confirmed that Indian armed forces were responding appropriately to the violations.
